News12 Westchester: Grad Bag provides college freshmen with free supplies

YONKERS - It may only be July, but back-to-school preparation is already in full swing.

Students poured into Grad Bag's pop-up shop at the College Zone in Yonkers Friday ready to shop.

Grad Bag is a nonprofit that helps low-income college students furnish their dorm rooms with free supplies.

Each student is given a comforter, a set of sheets, hangers, a decorative lamp and four other items. All of the supplies are recycled items from college dorms.

Most of the students are incoming college freshmen, who are participants in a college prep program run by Yonkers Partners in Education.

Students say getting the free dorm room supplies eases some of the stress of starting college.

This is the second year Yonkers Partners in Education collaborated with Grad Bag to offer free dorm supplies to students.
